Banks, branches and bank accounts

Learn how imported statement data creates Flinq's banking structure and how each level is used.

Katrin Erb Written by Katrin Erb Updated Published

Flinq organises imported banking data as banks, branches and bank accounts inside an office.

Bank

A bank is the financial institution connected to the office. Activate it in Office Settings before using its importers, exporters or accounts. A banking group may associate related bank entities for reference.

Branch

A branch belongs to a bank and is identified from imported account data, such as a branch or sort code. Flinq can create a branch when a valid statement introduces an account for a branch that is not yet present.

Interest pools can be limited to selected branches. An account is eligible only if its branch is included in the pool.

Bank account

A bank account belongs to one office, branch and currency and is identified by its account number or IBAN. Importing statements creates or updates the account's balances and, where supported, transactions.

An account may also have:

  • a current, historical or future-dated interest-pool assignment;

  • a Book assignment;

  • a management-account role for an interest pool; and

  • payment entries and audit history.

## How the structure is maintained

Treat imported bank data as the source for account and branch identifiers. If details are missing or unexpected, first confirm the bank file and selected importer. Avoid creating replacement records to work around a conflict, because account identifiers cannot be shared across offices.
